The Case of the Missing Printer

Problem: Today two of the Macs in our office refused to print to our Canon color printer/copier. The printer queue reported that it wasn't responding. After trying all the usual fixes and tests, this is what worked:

• Cancel any jobs in the offending printer queue
• Open your Applications folder; in that, open the Utilities folder
• Launch the Printer Setup Utility
• Select the printer in the printer list and click Delete

• Back in the Utilities folder, open Disk Utility and repair permissions

• When permissions repair is complete, restart your Mac

• Launch the Printer Setup Utility again and click Add
• In the Printer Browser window, find the missing printer and select it
• Click the Add button
• Quit the utility; you should be good to go!
